Unveiling the subconscious: How sexual dreams reflect and intensify mental problems

Sleep research. December 17, 2024 Emmanuel E. Egom, Teko Blaise Mbah, Suzanne Adolphine Soppi Ebango et al. 2 citations

Nearly all female-identifying adults (99.67%) report having sexual dreams, with 45.2% experiencing them frequently. Frequent sexual dreams are significantly associated with having a mental health diagnosis (odds ratio 1.83). Post-dream symptoms like anxiety and muscle tension are common but show only weak, non-significant links to mental health treatment. The findings suggest frequent sexual dreams may act as a psychological stress indicator, particularly for those with mental health conditions. Incorporating dream patterns into mental health assessments could improve clinical understanding.
