Dreams Shared on Social Networks during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Tower of Babel or Noah’s Ark?—A Group-Analytic Perspective

International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health February 17, 2023 Shulamit Geller, Gal van den Brink, Yehoshua Akerman et al. 2 citations

During the first COVID-19 lockdown, dreams shared on social network sites (SNS) reflected collective trauma and coping. A qualitative analysis of 30 dreams identified three themes: threats (enemy, danger, COVID-19), emotional fusion (confusion and despair alongside recovery and hope), and group processes oscillating between being alone and being together. Dreamtelling on SNS helped individuals process social reality and build hope through creative social relationships, demonstrating transformative potential for coping during collective disasters.

Pain Catastrophizing Mediates the Association Between Mindfulness and Psychological Distress in Chronic Pain Syndrome

Pain Practice September 1, 2020 Yael Conti, Jean‐Jacques Vatine, Sigal Levy et al.

Trait mindfulness is linked to lower depression and anxiety in pain patients, and this study examined whether pain catastrophizing explains that link. Among 48 subacute rehabilitation patients, 17 with chronic pain, catastrophizing mediated the association between mindfulness and both depression and anxiety. Moderated mediation showed this full mediation only in chronic pain patients, not in those with nonchronic pain. The authors suggest that mindful individuals engage in less catastrophic thinking, reducing distress, and that addressing catastrophizing and encouraging mindfulness may benefit chronic pain patients.
