Dream recall after REM sleep is linked to a specific brain-body network. In nine healthy volunteers, blood pressure dynamics and increased information transfer from heartbeat regulation to the brain were causally related to conscious dream experiences. Bodily changes play a crucial, causative role in dreaming.
