Nurse-patient interaction and self-transcendence: assets for a meaningful life in nursing home residents?

Among cognitively intact nursing home residents, the quality of nurse-patient interaction is linked to both inter- and intra-personal self-transcendence and to meaning in life. Self-transcendence had a fundamental influence on perceived meaning in life, while nurse-patient interaction showed a significant indirect influence on meaning in life, mediated by self-transcendence. These findings come from a cross-sectional survey of 188 long-term residents across 27 nursing homes, with a 92% response rate.
