The effect of psychosocial distress and self-transcendence on resilience in patients with cancer.

Perspectives In Psychiatric Care May 10, 2022 Seda Er, Gizem Şahin-Bayındır, Ayşin Kayış et al.

Among 105 individuals receiving cancer treatment, psychosocial distress was negatively related to resilience, while self-transcendence was positively related to resilience. The regression analysis showed that higher psychosocial distress corresponded to lower resilience, and higher self-transcendence corresponded to higher resilience. Psychiatric nurses may help patients identify sources of self-transcendence to support resilience.

The relationships between self-transcendence and depressive symptoms, self-esteem, and locus of control in individuals diagnosed with substance addiction.

Perspectives In Psychiatric Care February 5, 2022 Seda Er, Sevim Buzlu

Among 115 people diagnosed with substance use disorder, those who reported higher self-transcendence also reported fewer depressive symptoms, higher self-esteem, and a more internal locus of control. The findings suggest that fostering self-transcendence may support mental health in this population, offering a basis for nurses to design interventions that strengthen well-being.
