Transpersonal Art: A Conversation with Artist Judy Schavrien

Art/Research International July 2, 2017 Dorit Netzer, Judy Schavrien

An interview with transpersonal psychology scholar, poet, and artist Judy Schavrien explores the philosophical and psychosocial foundations of her artworks in "Alice at the Rabbithole Café" and "Everything Voluptuous: The Love Songs 1970-2014." The conversation reveals Schavrien's view that artists must challenge conventions, provoke thought, engage multiple ways of knowing, and offer alternatives that push society forward, rather than merely being custodians of culture. Her research shares this aim. Both the artist and interviewer see a participatory element in her art, research, and the article's approach.
