Flow, a mental state of deep, relaxed concentration and high psychophysical efficiency, can be detected through prefrontal cortex activity measured by portable EEG. In a study of athletes, EEG data aligned with subjective reports of flow, and psychological exercises enhanced flow during athletic performance. Although tested mainly in golf, the mathematical models developed are designed for a wide range of sports and non-sport contexts.
