Plato’s «soteriology» in the context of classical yoga

Известия Саратовского университета. Новая серия: Серия Философия. Психология. Педагогика July 1, 2022 N. Pozdnyakov, Sergey

Plato's philosophy and the classical yoga of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras share a soteriological framework aimed at the highest spiritual realization. Both systems employ a structured, eight-limbed path that includes physical and mental health practices, inner and outer purity, self-control, sensory restraint, mental equanimity, elimination of ignorance, and meditation. The meditative practice in Plato's system is gradual and culminates in the same soteriological outcome as the internal means of yoga in Patanjali's system. The deep connection between psychotechnics, philosophy, and religious wisdom in these traditions is a key area for comparative study.
