[Current Status of Self-transcendence among Lung Cancer Patients and Its Influencing Factors].

Zhongguo fei ai za zhi = Chinese journal of lung cancer July 20, 2024 Xue Yang, Yu Luo, Lijuan Ye et al.

In a sample of 243 lung cancer patients in China, self-transcendence—the ability to expand personal boundaries and find meaning despite illness—was at a low level, with a mean score of 44.73 out of a possible range. Hope level (mean 37.60) and social support (mean 41.31) were positively correlated with self-transcendence. Education, hope, and social support were identified as influencing factors. The findings suggest that boosting patients' hope and perceived social support through targeted psychological interventions may help improve self-transcendence and, in turn, quality of life and treatment outcomes.
