A review of five studies found that Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) therapy reduces depression levels in elderly people aged 60 years and older. MBSR, which trains awareness through meditation techniques such as body scan meditation, aims to change how individuals relate to stressful situations and thoughts by decreasing emotional reactions. The therapy has no side effects compared to pharmacological treatments. The review suggests health workers can implement MBSR therapy to reduce depression in the elderly.
