Comparing the Effects of Yoga Nidra and Body Scan Meditation on Pain Outcomes

International Journal of Yoga September 1, 2025 Violette Gibbs, William J. Hanney, Abigail W. Anderson 1 citation

Both yoga nidra and body scan sessions reduced pain intensity and pain-related anxiety in adults with chronic pain, with improvements lasting at least 24 hours. Yoga nidra, which includes intention-setting, visualization, and relaxation, led to greater improvements in well-being immediately after the session compared to body scan. Neither intervention significantly affected optimism. The findings suggest that both mind–body interventions can help manage chronic pain, and yoga nidra may offer additional benefits for well-being.
