The Brahmaviharas in Buddhist Philosophy for Health and Clinical Teaching: A Pathway to Mindfulness and Well-being

Journal of Cambodian Health September 4, 2025 Sethul Hoeur, Sambath Cheab, Tineke Water

The Brahmaviharas—loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity—are presented as a culturally grounded framework for wellbeing and emotional resilience in Cambodia. Integrating these Buddhist virtues into clinical teaching may improve patient outcomes and professional development. Cambodia's spiritual traditions provide a foundation for incorporating Buddhist ethical and meditative practices into daily life and clinical work. Based on historical context and recent research, the authors propose that the Brahmaviharas offer a practical approach to cultivating emotional resilience, reducing psychological distress, and fostering inner peace.
