From Doing to Being: The Transformative Power of Mindfulness in Modern Life
Gelişim ve Psikoloji Dergisi January 2, 2026 Atakan Yiğit, Fikret Gülaçtı
Mindfulness is a cognitive and attitudinal process involving intention, attention, and attitude that helps individuals focus on present experiences without judgment. Seven core attitudes—non-judgment, patience, beginner's mind, trust, non-striving, acceptance, and letting go—support emotional flexibility. Cultivated through formal practices like meditation and body scanning or informal ones like mindful walking, mindfulness enhances self-awareness, emotion regulation, self-compassion, and psychological resilience while reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. Its accessibility and cost-effectiveness make it widely applicable in education, counseling, healthcare, and organizations. The work examines theoretical foundations and practical applications, identifying conditions for effectively promoting sustainable well-being.
