[The relevance of zen-buddhism for dialectic-behavioral therapy].

Psychotherapie, Psychosomatik, medizinische Psychologie January 1, 2003 Michael Huppertz

Dialectic-Behavioral Therapy (DBT) integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Humanistic Psychotherapies with a Zen-Buddhist background. This paper explains Zen-meditation and Zen-Buddhist philosophy, situates DBT within the historical relationship between Zen-Buddhism and psychotherapy, and shows how Zen-Buddhism inspired DBT practice. It also addresses problems that arise when a modern psychotherapy adopts concepts from a premodern worldview.
