Effects of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) on Stress, Heart Rate Variability, Affect, and Wellbeing among People with Schizophrenia

A mindfulness-based stress reduction program, applied once a week for 60 minutes over 8 weeks, significantly decreased perceived stress and negative affect, and significantly improved heart rate variability in community-dwelling people with schizophrenia compared with a control group. The program was an effective nursing intervention for reducing stress and negative affect in this population.
