The Transcendental Meditation Program's Impact on the Symptoms of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder of Veterans: An Uncontrolled Pilot Study.
Military Medicine January 1, 2018 Robert E Herron, Brian Rees
After one month of practicing the Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique, 46 veterans with PTSD symptoms showed an average drop of 28 points on the PTSD Checklist, from 51.5 to 23.4, a 54.5% decline. Eighty-seven percent had clinically significant reductions, and 80% fell below the clinical threshold. A dose-response effect was observed: those practicing two 20-minute sessions daily improved more than those practicing one session. The findings suggest TM can reduce PTSD symptoms without requiring trauma re-exposure, though the lack of a control group and random assignment limits generalizability.
