Una psicología sin diván: Efectos de la práctica contemplativa sostenida del budismo tibetano sobre la neuroplasticidad y los procesos psicológicos. Una revisión sistemática

Sustained or intensive Tibetan Buddhist meditation practices constitute a rigorous mental training system. A systematic review of 33 empirical studies found convergent evidence across three interconnected domains: reconfiguration of the default mode network (reduced activation and increased connectivity with control networks), strengthened cognitive and attentional control with greater neural efficiency, and transformed affective regulation along with cultivation of prosocial qualities. Structural and functional brain changes in the insula and hippocampus were documented. The evidence strongly supports that sustained intensive Tibetan meditation acts as a highly effective self-administered mental training capable of inducing measurable neuropsychological transformation, laying groundwork for integration into psychological health frameworks.
