The effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy on mental well-being of opiate-consumers

Chronic Diseases Journal February 26, 2023 Roonak Mobaraki, Hamzeh Ahmadian, Emad El-din Ezatpour

A pretest-posttest experimental study with 20 opioid users in Sanandaj, Iran found that an 8-session mindfulness-based cognitive therapy intervention significantly improved mental well-being compared to a control group. The experimental group's mean mental well-being score after the intervention was 177.90 ± 20.14, versus 141.30 ± 19.16 in the control group, a statistically significant difference. The therapy helped participants replace irrational beliefs with reasonable ones, fostering new insights and improved communication with others, thereby enhancing subjective well-being.
