The DARE study of relapse prevention in depression: design for a phase 1/2 translational randomised controlled trial involving mindfulness-based cognitive therapy and supported self monitoring
BMC Psychiatry March 12, 2013 Shawyer Frances, N Meadows Graham, Judd Fiona et al.
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) is a group intervention that reduces depressive relapse in people with a history of major depression. This trial tests MBCT under real-world conditions, comparing it to a self-monitoring control (Depression Relapse Active Monitoring, DRAM) in 204 participants recruited from primary and secondary care who have had three or more prior episodes but are currently well. Follow-up lasts two years. The study also examines health economics, comorbidity effects, and mechanisms of action. Results will inform whether MBCT should be recommended and funded for depression treatment in Australia and elsewhere.
