Mindfulness possibilities in the treatment of chronic headaches

European Psychiatry August 27, 2024 D. Perczel-Forintos, D. Sal

A mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) program for chronic headache patients in Hungary reduced the negative impact of pain on quality of life, pain catastrophizing, and depression, with moderate to large effect sizes. Participants also showed increases in mindfulness skills such as non-reactivity and non-judgmental awareness, and in adaptive emotion regulation strategies. The results align with international evidence that MBCT can help people cope more adaptively with chronic headache.
