Impact of a Yoga and Meditation Intervention on Students' Stress and Anxiety Levels

A six-week program of weekly 60-minute vinyasa flow yoga plus guided meditation reduced stress and anxiety and increased mindfulness in college students aged 19 to 23. Seventeen participants completed pre- and post-intervention questionnaires measuring anxiety, perceived stress, and mindfulness. Anxiety and stress scores decreased significantly, and mindfulness scores increased significantly. After the program, no student scored in the high category for stress or anxiety. Adopting a mindfulness practice as little as once per week may reduce stress and anxiety in college students.
