Meditation experience predicts negative reinforcement learning and is associated with attenuated FRN amplitude

People who practice focused attention meditation learn more from negative feedback than nonmeditators, and this effect increases with meditation experience. Meditators also show a smaller feedback-related negativity (FRN) brain signal, a pattern linked to higher tonic dopamine levels. The findings suggest that regular meditation may persistently raise tonic dopamine, thereby altering how the brain processes feedback. The study involved a probabilistic selection task to measure feedback-based learning.
