Theory and conception of Somatopsyche Psychiatric Intervention: a transdiagnostic body-mind intervention for psychiatric practice.
Frontiers in Psychiatry January 1, 2025 Renata Fáro Guerra, Hermano Tavares
A new body-mind approach for psychiatric care, the Somatopsyche Psychiatric Intervention (SPI), combines body awareness practices, meditation, and neuroscience concepts across seven steps delivered in eight weekly sessions. The model aims to improve emotional regulation, decision-making, and resilience. Although primarily theoretical at this stage and still undergoing empirical validation, SPI has been implemented biannually in a clinical outpatient setting since 2019. Preliminary data collection using validated instruments such as the MAIA scale is ongoing. Challenges include training professionals and patient adaptation. Future pilot trials and comparative analyses are planned to evaluate effectiveness.
