Perspectivas del estudio de la consciencia: aproximación desde las ciencias de la complejidad y la biología evolutiva

A review of consciousness research examines current theories, particularly Integrated Information Theory and Global Workspace Theory, and argues that a research program grounded in biology and complexity sciences offers advantages. The authors propose using methods from complexity sciences and evolutionary biology as a framework for interpreting results. Six necessary points for such a program are discussed: adaptive functional analysis of consciousness, emergence of modular structures, evolutionary novelties, genetic correspondence of cognitive abilities, environmental effects, and reciprocal causality. A lack of consensus on defining consciousness remains a limitation for integrating empirical data into a general theory.
