Passions, consciousness, and the Rosetta Stone: Spinoza and embodied, extended, and affective cognition

Adaptive Behavior February 1, 2019 German Bula

Spinoza's philosophy offers a broad ontological framework for studying the mind-body problem, rather than isolated predictions confirmed by modern neuroscience. Unlike Descartes, Spinoza treats mind and body as two aspects of a single substance, suggesting they can serve as hermeneutical keys to each other. This framework differs importantly from current neuroscientific approaches and proposes a solution to the problem of consciousness that could guide future research.
