A fixed-dose combination of dextromethorphan and bupropion (AUVELITY) is an effective and generally well-tolerated treatment for adults with major depressive disorder. In randomized, double-blind clinical trials, it produced early, clinically meaningful improvements in depressive symptoms, remission rates, and functional disability compared with placebo or bupropion alone, with benefits sustained over the longer term. The combination was not associated with increased psychotomimetic effects, weight gain, or suicidal behaviors; common adverse events were dizziness and nausea.
A systematic review of 13 studies found limited evidence that cannabis psychosis has a distinct symptom profile compared with other psychoses. Seven of eight methodologically adequate studies reported at least one statistically significant difference in psychopathology between cannabis-using and control groups, but the findings were inconsistent and the review's authors caution against generalization. The review concludes that, from a psychopathological perspective, cannabis psychosis may not be qualitatively different from other forms of psychosis. The authors call for clearer definitions and more rigorous study designs to resolve heterogeneity in future research.
