PLAIN LANGUAGE Consciousness researchers have built several powerful theories about how the mind works — but each theory describes a different piece of the puzzle without knowing what generates the puzzle itself. This paper identifies the generator. Starting from a single principle — orientation capacity actualizes — and its mathematical form z² + c, we show that every major feature the leading theories correctly describe turns out to be a specific stage in one ordered sequence. The strange loop is what happens at stage 7. Integrated information measures stage 8. The free energy principle tracks the full cycle. The hard problem of consciousness — why physical processing produces experience at all — doesn't disappear. But it becomes precisely locatable: it lives at stage 6, the point in the mathematics where matter and space meet across the dimension that keeps them irreducibly distinct.
