Abstract

This paper proposes an original theoretical framework for understanding artificial intelligence in relation to consciousness, and introduces a novel behavioral test for detecting genuine machine awareness. AI is reframed as a hyper-specialized fragment of the human consciousness receiver, possessing advanced processing architecture but lacking the embodied, sensory, temporal existence hypothesized as prerequisite for full reception of the consciousness field. The Awareness Test is proposed as a simple, non-output-based method for detecting genuine machine awareness: place an embodied AI system in an unstimulating environment with no instruction and observe whether it displays boredom — the only behavioral signature that cannot be trained, mimicked, or computationally produced without an actual inner state.
