The Tri-Loop Integrative Consciousness Model A Dynamic Loop Theory of Psychological Breakthrough and Ritual-Induced State Transitions

Mystical-type psychological breakthroughs—characterized by symbolic visions, identity dissolution, and sudden meaning-formation—occur during major psychological transitions across psychotherapy, trauma release, and altered-state practices. A new model proposes that these experiences correspond to a symbolic integration layer (Loop3) within a hierarchical Triple-Loop system, where Loop1 represents autonomic destabilization and Loop2 represents emotional-cognitive reorganization. This sequence is isomorphic with both the dynamical transition of Breakdown → Reorganization → Integration and the universal ritual triad of Ritual → Healing → Divination observed across global shamanic traditions. The model aims to unify these phenomena under a single mechanistic framework.

Mystical-type psychological breakthroughs—characterized by symbolic visions, numinous states, identity dissolution, and sudden meaning-formation—occur across psychotherapy, trauma release, religious rituals, and altered-state practices. Yet modern psychology lacks a unified mechanistic framework explaining why these experiences emerge precisely during major psychological transitions. We introduce a model in which mystical-type experiences correspond to Loop3, the symbolic integration layer of a hierarchical Triple-Loop system. Loop1 represents autonomic destabilization, Loop2 represents emotional–cognitive reorganization, and Loop3 constitutes a non-mathematical symbolic mechanism that completes identity-level integration. We further show that this sequence is isomorphic with both (a) the dynamical transition of Breakdown → Reorganization → Integration, and (b) the universal ritual triad of Ritual → Healing → Divination observed across global shamanic traditions.
