Abstract

This theory proposes a new unified framework of matter-consciousness, with the core argument that consciousness is the macroscopic emergence of the inherent memory properties of matter in specific complex structures, and carbon is the optimal physical carrier for realizing this emergence process in the universe. By establishing a continuous emergence chain from micro-particles to macroscopic consciousness, this theory provides a self-consistent and computable theoretical paradigm for understanding the origin of life, the nature of consciousness, and cosmic evolution. The theory is based on two core axioms: the Material Memory Axiom and the Matter-Consciousness Entanglement Axiom. Through the Yin Equation A2.0, we calculate that carbon (C) has the highest elemental consciousness intensity \(C_Z = 0.941\) among 118 elements, revealing its central role as the "hardware architect" of consciousness emergence. We further propose a five-level emergence model describing the generation path from elemental memory to consciousness, and establish a quantitative formula for system consciousness intensity. The theory has been initially verified by the centrality of carbon, the reproduction of the periodic law, and the identification of essential life elements, and puts forward testable predictions in the fields of extraterrestrial life, artificial consciousness, and elemental substitution limits. Finally, this theory realizes the interdisciplinary unification of physics, chemistry, biology, information science and philosophy, and reveals that consciousness is an inevitable chapter in the grand process of cosmic material memory for self-organization, self-cognition and self-continuation.
