Mindfulness meditation delivered by telephone is feasible for patients with high-grade glioma undergoing chemoradiation. In a small pilot study, 15 of 27 eligible patients enrolled; median age was 60 years, and most were white women. Participants attended an average of 82.86% of six weekly telephone sessions plus one in-person session. Among the 10 who completed an exit interview, 70% said they would continue practicing mindfulness, and over half of those who attended all seven sessions found them beneficial. The results suggest that a larger trial of mindfulness during active brain tumor treatment is possible and may help reduce distress and improve quality of life.
