Abstract PO5-11-09: Participants’ experience with an online mindfulness-based stress reduction intervention for anxiety management in breast cancer survivors: A secondary analysis of a randomized trial

Cancer Research May 2, 2024 H. Verduzco-Aguirre, Maura Pompa Mansilla, M. Salazar-Alejo et al.

In a qualitative sub-study of a randomized trial, Mexican breast cancer survivors with moderate to severe anxiety who completed an online mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program described the weekly sessions and at-home practice as a "personal haven." Participants found the deliberate practice and supplementary audio and video materials essential, and many reported that mindfulness practices became integrated into their daily lives, helping them respond to everyday and breast cancer-related stressors. Most viewed the online format positively for its flexibility and comfort, though some noted limited connection with the instructor and peers. The intervention was largely perceived as "life-changing" and beneficial beyond anxiety reduction.
