The feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of an mHealth mindfulness therapy for caregivers of adults with cognitive impairment

Aging & Mental Health August 25, 2021 Elissa Kozlov, Meghan McDarby, I. Pagano et al.

In a pilot feasibility trial, 58 informal caregivers of older adults with cognitive impairment used the Mindfulness Coach mobile app, an mHealth mindfulness intervention. Participants reported that the app was acceptable, and they were satisfied with its design and usability. Over the eight-week study, measures of depression, anxiety, caregiver burden, and perceived stress improved, with greater improvements associated with more time spent using the app. The authors suggest that mHealth mindfulness therapy is feasible and acceptable for this population and may reduce psychological symptoms, though they note that future work should determine appropriate doses and integration into routine care.
