Mindfulness meditation is effective for reducing symptoms of military-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). A meta-analysis of 19 randomized controlled trials with 1,326 participants found that mindfulness meditation led to significantly greater symptom reduction compared to control conditions such as treatment as usual, present-centered group therapy, or PTSD health education. The effect was moderate and consistent across different control types, delivery formats (group or individual), and intervention durations (short-term or standard). The findings support the use of mindfulness meditation as a feasible treatment for military-related PTSD, though higher-quality studies are needed.
