Dealing with Depression with Meditation: A Real Solution or Just a Trend?

Depression affects emotions, physical health, thinking, and behavior, causing major life disruptions. In Indonesia, national depression prevalence is 1.4%, with the highest rate (2%) among 15-24 year olds. Mindfulness meditation is considered a safe and effective approach for managing depression. This review of journal studies finds that despite meditation's limitations—such as requiring considerable time, difficulty forming habits, discomfort with consistent practice, and non-instantaneous results—research demonstrates significant benefits for mental health, including managing social anxiety disorder, PTSD, generalized anxiety, and depression.
