Microdosing: A Conceptual Framework for use as Programming Strategy for Resistance Training in Team Sports

Strength & Conditioning Journal June 15, 2023 M. Cuthbert, G. G. Haff, J. McMahon et al.

Microdosing in resistance training involves delivering small, frequent doses of training stimulus rather than traditional larger sessions. Although the term is often used incorrectly and confused with the minimum effective dose, its underlying principles have been studied for years. This review discusses how microdosing may benefit team sports by improving acute and chronic training responses, programming around competition schedules, motor learning, and individualization. However, empirical research explicitly investigating microdosing remains limited. The authors clarify the concept and highlight areas needing further investigation, noting that while the term is trendy, the ideas behind it are not new.
